Message From the U.S. Kyoto Scholarship Committee Co-Chair

The purpose of the Kyoto Scholarships is to recognize young people from both San Diego and Tijuana who have shown significant promise and potential in the three categories of the Kyoto Prize ― Advanced Technology, Basic Sciences, and Arts and Philosophy.

Each year, six young people from both sides of the border (three from San Diego County and three from greater Tijuana) are awarded Kyoto Scholarships valued up to $10,000 each. Recipients are chosen on the basis of their exemplary service, academic excellence and attitude. It is no exaggeration to state that those who receive this scholarship benefit from a life-changing experience.

The many scholarships and fellowships that I received during my high school, college and graduate school years have enabled me to pursue my studies and personal goals. The significance of receiving these honors cannot be measured by words.  Receiving these scholarships changed my life, and I am eternally grateful. I serve the Kyoto Scholarship chair with great humility and devotion.

Warmest regards,

Lilly Cheng, Ph.D.
